For over 15 years I was in Girl Scouts as a member and Co-leader. Being in Girl Scouts has taught me to be an independent person and what it takes to be a leader. I was taught to be a team player and learn how to communicate with people who have a difference of a point of view. I have completed over 600 hours of community service throughout my lifetime in Girl Scouts.
Towards the end of my Girl Scout career, I completed the highest honors the Gold Award. In order to receive the award, I had to complete over 60 hours of community service and come up with a project to help my community.
MUSIC FOR KIDS
Music For Kids is the name of my Gold Award service project. Hope Community Gardens a Women's Shelter gives the mother's and their children a second chance at life.
In my project, the kids at Hope Gardens ages range from 7 to 11-year-old boys and girls. I organized 3 separate workshops to show children the enjoyment of making music.
The first workshop I lead was teaching the children how to turn everyday materials into instruments. The second workshop I prepared a music video of different genres, and how each different instrument makes its own sound. On the third and final workshop, I organized my high school concert band to perform a live concert just for the kids at Hope Community Gardens. At the end of my journey, I was awarded my Gold Award from Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angles.
AWARDS
I received the Gold Award the highest honor in Girl Scouts.
After receiving the Gold Award, I applied to be the banner carrier for the Rose Parade. I was selected out of 200 Girl Scouts of the Greater Los Angles to be the banner carrier for 2010 and 2011 Rose Paraded.
